MikroTik, understood natively

RouterOS health comes straight from the vendor tables: board temperatures, voltages, fan speeds — with units the device itself declares, not guessed. CPU load per core, interface traffic and errors, PoE delivery per port. RouterOS quirks are handled where generic SNMP tools trip: VRRP pairs fold into one link on the topology map instead of spawning ghost devices, and spare ports never page anyone — a port alerts only when it was carrying link and went dark while administratively up.

Topology you did not have to draw

LLDP and MNDP neighbor data builds the map by itself: devices, links, link speeds and utilization, with the weathermap view showing where the traffic actually flows. MAC tracking answers "which port is this machine on", VLANs and IP address space are inventoried alongside.

NetFlow, when counters are not enough

Interface counters say how much; flows say who. Collectors receive NetFlow v5, v9 and IPFIX, so "the uplink is saturated" becomes "this host, this protocol, this conversation." Included from the Pro plan at 5 GB a day, with top talkers on every device page.

Config backups with a memory

The collector fetches device configurations over SSH on a schedule: host keys are pinned on first use, passwords and secrets are masked before the config leaves your network, and a new version is stored only when something actually changed. Every change is an incident with a diff — so "who touched the router" has an answer with a timestamp.

UPS and power

Battery charge, runtime remaining, input and output voltage, load — standard UPS-MIB and APC PowerNet both understood out of the box.

Discovery with manners

Subnet scans run only after you approve them in the console. Found devices appear as candidates awaiting your click, never as silent additions to the bill.

Alert rules included

Device unreachable, active port down, trap storms, config changed — calibrated defaults you can tune or silence per device.

Do I need to install anything on the router or switch?
No. One agent on any Linux machine in the same network becomes a collector and polls devices over SNMP. A second host can be named as backup collector and takes over automatically if the first goes down.
How is a network device billed?
A device is one unit: a 48-port switch is one device, not 48 sensors or 96 line items. Ports, sensors, PoE and traffic inside it are included. One device is free on every plan, ten on Pro, fifty on Business.
Where do SNMP credentials live?
On the collector host, encrypted with a machine-bound key. Communities and SNMPv3 passphrases are set locally with one command and never leave your network — the platform receives metrics, not secrets.
